Jemma Matthews: Sussex Downs

Jemma Matthews

Sussex Downs Campus Rep

Constantly striving for a better student environment, today and tomorrow

I would like to stand for this role because I am passionate about being a voice for fellow students, to ensure their university experience is the best it possibly can be.

In my first and second year I have acted as Course Representative for my course which has been a role I really enjoy and find rewarding both for myself and for my fellow students. I am pro-active in making sure student’s opinions are heard, and as a result of this, issues I raised during meetings last year helped the university level students at our college get our own higher education common room, which we can use to socialise with other degree students which had previously been difficult.

I would like to build on this improvement by representing our entire campus officially and being able to put more ideas into place. I am constantly thinking of ways our university environment can be improved and am confident in talking to students and asking them what they think can be changed for the better. Some ideas I have already that I would love to be able to bring forward are a service whereby books available at the main university libraries can be delivered to and picked up at our college library, saving us travel and giving us easier access to items; and the facility to pay by card at the canteen/cafes at our college.

If I were to be elected I would dedicate myself to ensuring our campus is a brilliant place to study, for current students and for the future.
