Hi everyone, my name’s Sophie Riley and I’m a fourth year student on the primary education course. I am running for the position of Vice President Campus and Communications. I am dedicated to improving the quality of student life for everyone and feel that by being in this position I will be able to go some way to achieving this.
I am already involved with many aspects of student life both as Vice President of the Brighton University Lacrosse team and also as a Student Ambassador for the University. As well as this I am currently involved with the Students Union as a faculty representative for the faculty of Education and Sport, therefore I feel that I have developed many skills which will be easily transferred to the role of VP Campus and Communications. All of these roles have involved working in a team, listening to others and arguing points of view. I therefore believe that I am well prepared to represent you and to voice the opinion of the students as ultimately that is what I will be there for! I think that I am the perfect candidate for this job because through my work, sport and student ambassador activities I have been able to meet students at most of the university campuses and have excellent knowledge of the facilities at each campus and how these can be best utilised for students.
If elected as VP Campus and Communications I intend to listen and act upon those issues which are important to the students. I would like to increase inter campus communications as I feel that there are different areas of expertise and interest at each campus. I would like to implement greater coverage of what is going on in different areas of the university through student radio, the pebble and through using plasma screens which are already around the university. I would also like to find a way of bringing students together from different areas and campuses and look forward to working with the VP Activities and Events on this.
I want to make sure that this union works best for you, and I think that a big part of this position is to ensure that I try my hardest to action as many of your problems as possible. I don’t think it is right for me to write a long list of things that I would like to do in my year of office because ultimately I need to listen to what’s important to all of you, the student population. One problem though that I wish to rectify as soon as possible is that of free cash machines on all campuses as I really don’t think it is acceptable to charge students to take out money while they are on campus.
All there is for you to do now is... when you find yourself in front of a computer during voting...then please vote Sophie Riley for VP Campus and Communications.
