► VPCC Alice Attwood

It’s not just what I can do for your uni, it’s what I can do for you.

Vote Alice; I’ve got it covered.

Hi, my name is Alice Attwood, a 21 year old third year Communication and Media Studies student, and I am the Vice President Campus and Communication candidate to make the changes that you want and need.

Firstly, I’m not big on rambling, I’m more concerned with action; after all, if there’s an issue affecting you then I care about it and want to know about it...all 22,000 of you!

In my position as News Editor for The Pebble I have already helped in making some vital changes to student media in order to match up the quality of the content to the quality of the design.  After speaking to students it is clear that this revamp is long overdue. A more effective dialogue between student media and students themselves is required; if elected I will ensure that anyone who wants to get involved, ask a question or just generally comment there is somewhere for you to go to get your answers without having to rely on emails and faceless names.  Monthly open meetings will facilitate this dialogue.

Vote Alice; I’ve got it covered.

Since being elected News Editor, I have worked to ensure that my section of The Pebble is interesting, relevant and important for students’, and feedback from students’ suggests that I am succeeding in doing so.  By stepping up to Vice President Campus and Communication I would adopt the role of Managing Editor; this way I can have more interaction with the paper as a whole, while it remains a student-led publication.  As part of your fees go towards the creation and distribution of The Pebble it should be the best it possibly can; if elected I will ensure that content will be edited properly and the paper will reach all partner colleges and university sites the same day as the major sites.

Vote Alice; I’ve got it covered.

I have already secured an exterior, independent distributor, The Big Lemon, this shows that I’m already fighting to increase the worth and importance of student media in the local community.

I have been working to ensure that partner colleges and sites are being effectively represented; If elected I will frequently visit these sites to witness first hand any issues that those of you in Eastbourne, Hastings, Plumpton etc. are experiencing.

Vote Alice; I’ve got it covered.

Brighton’s LGBT community, while invariably enjoying the vibrancy and diversity that the city has to offer, still need support from the university.  If elected, I will ensure that frequent and effective dialogue is efficiently maintained in the form of meetings and feedback sessions to make sure that the uni is working for you.

Vote Alice; I’ve got it covered.

Money-troubles are a stereotypical issue for students with a large proportion accounting for fees.  I will ensure that this money is pumped back into the services students need and want; the proposed closures of Phoenix Nursery and Unisex were decided without consultation with students. Childcare, sexual health, library support, accessibility… whatever the issue may be, I will fight for the things that you care about in your university and community.

Higher education teaching funding is set to be cut by £215 million with total funding cuts set to account for £449 million; I will work to ensure that funding reductions will not adversely affect any form of student media or community services.

Vote Alice; I’ve got it covered.

We all know smoking is bad for your health but some just can’t kick the habit; if elected I’ll liaise with grounds and maintenance staff to create smoking shelters near university buildings; English weather isn’t reliable so tobacco-time needs some protection from the elements!

The Moulsecoomb site is in the process of regeneration which will eventually leave the Cockcroft Building effectively without purpose; through dialogue with you I will present a report to the Board of Trustees stating what students’ want to happen to the building; this is your uni.

Voting runs from 10am Monday 15th March until 4pm Friday 19th March via Student Central so get involved and use your vote wisely…

Remember; It’s not just what I can do for your uni, it’s what I can do for you.

Vote Alice; I’ve got it covered.
