Meet the Team

It is my pleasure to introduce to you the team responsible for running The Pebble for this academic year.

Below is a snapshot of each sub-editor, their interests, responsibilities, and plans for the future.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with them if you are interested in writing for the paper.

Although they all have a job title and loose areas of responsibilities, essentially these guys are the guardians of their respective sections- so if you think you have an idea but can’t quite see where it would work, do not hesitate to get in touch with any of them.

Alice Attwood
alice.attwood@sky.com

I’m a third year student reading Communication and Media Studies.  Originally from Sidcup, Kent, I’m 20, a lesbian, have a wonderful girlfriend and a Shih Tzu puppy called Harry.  Phew, introduction over!

The Pebble is written by the student body, for the student body.  What goes in the paper might affect, shock, intrigue you, or just damn right make you laugh…whatever happens I want you to love The Pebble- it’s a part of our university and we’re going to make history this year!

On a serious note, I am proud and honoured to be your editor and will endeavour to publish stories that interest and excite you.  I want The Pebble to be a true reflection of our amazingly diverse community, so if you feel in the coming months this isn’t happening, you know who to come to.

Looking forward to getting to know you!
Alice

Music
Ellie Siljestrom
sellinor@gmail.com

Since moving to Brighton in 2006, it’s become clear to me that this is one difficult town not to fall in love with. And so I’m still here. My name is Ellinor Siljestrom and I am not your average Swede. I am not tall, or blonde, or have a ridiculous Sven-Goran Ericsson accent. I am obsessed with most things music and all things textile.
I breathe indie, electro, disco, rock, post-rock, singer/songwriter, alt-folk, and anything by Ben Gibbard. I love Queen, but can’t stand The Saturdays or any form of metal. But that’s just me. As music editor for The Pebble I will ensure all areas get their say. We will be open for all suggestions and all genres.
You can find me at Grand Parade where I’m doing Textiles Design, and most Thursdays DJing at Life with the lovely Club NME.
If you have anything you’d want to say about music, and say it in The Pebble

Film and Visual Media
Martin Clayton
martin_clayton@hotmail.com

Hi, I'm Martin the Entertainment editor for The Pebble and hopefully this year, my little army of nerds and I can deliver stuff in this section that you will actually want to read about! If u can be asked to read it that is...

Not unlike any army around the world, we are always looking for new, enthusiastic and slightly different writers to join our revolution! So if you like what you read (and especially if you don't!) then get involved and help me make this part of the paper even worse...I mean good!

Oh yea, I'm supposed to tell you something about me so we create some kind of unilateral bond via these pages, so let me put it this way...

I have no experience at all in magazine/newspaper editing, writing for any kind of formal publication, or even owning Microsoft Word (Open Office rocks!), but I do have experience in beer followed by an awesome speech at an open newspaper election meeting!

Creative and Features
Rosie Rogers
r.m.rogers@brighton.ac.uk

Hi there, I am the other co-creative editor for the Pebble, although I have been writing here for just under a year. I am a third year Visual Culture Student, originally hailing from Oxford. What interests me? Well, I’m interested in contemporary art and photography, particularly street art, digital art and graphic design, but it’s your thoughts on contemporary culture that I want to show off.
Every month I will give you a definitive guide to exhibitions, performances and other cultural goings on in this great city. However, I don’t want to be exclusive. I would love to publish your opinions on books, theatre, design, poetry and anything else under the cultural umbrella. I also want to have a dedicated section every month where we showcase sent in work. Next month the theme will be phantasmagoria. Similarly, if there is an artist that has caught your eye recently and you want us to share it with everyone, get in touch.

Creative and Features
Virginia Silberberg
vsilberberg@hotmail.co.uk

I'm co-editor of creative arts, I‘m interested in the social side of things. I will be writing about fashion, what to do in Brighton and where to go all with a student budget in mind.
I’ve written before for my local news paper at home called the Swindon Advertiser. Here as well as giving reviews on music I had my own going out column and I got to report of the student festival Beach Breaks. The best bit of writing for the Adver was that I got backstage passes for Radio 1s Big Weekend where I got to meet Dizzee Rascal and a whole host of other celebrities.
I really enjoy being a student at Brighton Uni, I like to spend my free time socialising and I’ve had some amazing times over the past two years.
Random fact about me: I won Billie Piper’s school uniform in a raffle when I was about 12.

Sports
Fareha Lasker
fareha_lasker@hotmail.com

Hi Readers! My name is Fareha Lasker, first ever Sport Sub-editor of The Pebble! I am an avid sports fan, special interests being Rugby and Cheerleading.  I was motivated to fill this role after being inspired by the silver won by the Women's Football World Cup Team this year, well done ladies! I believe my most useful quality I bring is my love of gamesmanship which manifests itself through my big mouth- listen and watch out for me on the sidelines this year, screaming until a Panthers victory is guaranteed.  We have a brilliant sporting profile of players here at Brighton and I cannot wait to showcase our talents and successes- team and individual.  The practice of Sports is one of the biggest bonds across our campuses and we should be proud- this year we will be introducing our Sports Favourites every issue, giving you a chance to meet the stars who represent us in the field.

Societies
Leke Apena
adelekeapena@hotmail.com

Hi readers, my name is Leke. I'm the society's editor for The Pebble. I'm your typical uni student (well what I consider typical). Spending half my time going out, the other half attempting to do some form of Uni work. I plan on keeping you, the student, up to date with everything to do with societies so that you'll always know what's happening. Also look out for my reviews I plan on doing on certain games and books in the near future. Hope you enjoy this issue and the coming issues of The Pebble.

Volunteering

Hannah Swindon
H.Swindon@gmail.com

Hey hey. I’m Hannah, currently in the third and final year of my degree in Visual Culture. I started writing for The Pebble a year ago by creating the Art Lite page. My friend and colleague came on board and together we produced what we hoped was a fun and informative look on the art world. This year I’ve changed direction, becoming the sub-editor for Student Activities-Volunteering. In this section, I hope to enlighten you about Active Student, the university’s fabulous volunteering scheme. Not only this, I want you lovely readers to send in any photos/stories that you may have about volunteering projects you may have participated in. Whether on a farm in the Cotswolds or building an orphanage in Africa, we want to hear about it!
